Time to Say Goodbye to UoP
After nine happy years working as an Associate Lecturer/Tutor at the University of Plymouth, I have chosen to take voluntary redundancy, effective from 31st July.
During my time at the University, I had the pleasure of working with hundreds of students and some of the smartest, most committed individuals I’ve ever had the good fortune to meet.

What did I do
I taught on the Apprenticeship Degree in Professional Services, where I was responsible for developing the learning materials and delivering teaching for the Strategy and Finance, and Marketing and Sales modules. I originally wrote these modules in 2016 when Business Think was contracted to create the content in line with the Chartered Management Institute guidelines.I also taught on the Master’s programme, where I led the delivery of the Marketing and Digital Marketing module.
The People
If you ever get the opportunity to work in a university, I would highly recommend it. Everyone, regardless of their role, is exceptionally talented, highly qualified, and deeply committed to supporting students. I’ve been lucky to be part of that team for so long, working alongside so many brilliant individuals.
A special mention to my team leaders: Dr Lise Hunter, Dr Hilary Duckett, Dr Claire Gray, Karen Sweeting, and Dr Rumbi Mukonoweshuro. They largely left me to get on with things, which is a rare and valuable level of trust from any manager. That freedom to shape the programme was immensely rewarding.
In addition, I was lucky enough to co-teach a few modules with some excellent teachers too – Dr Liz Mason, Colin Robson, Paul Cumbers, Dr Jonathan Sharp and Dr Alison Theaker, to name a few.
I’d particularly like to acknowledge the support team for the programme - Flea Hunter, Sadie Legh, Louise Crocker, and Stacey Sewell. The job would have been impossible without them, and I’ve made a point of saying so in my exit interview.
If I didn’t mention you by name, I haven’t forgotten you - there just wasn’t room!
If you ever get the chance to work with any of these talented people, jump at it.
And finally, most of all, thank you to all the students.
Hopefully, this won’t be the end of my journey in teaching and sharing the knowledge and experience I’ve gained through applying these theories in the field.
Sad to leave - but hopefully not the end of the story...
Elliot at Business Think.
